Being Breath

stories from the wilderness of everyday life

What does it mean to "be mindfully aware"? It means to see what is going on - right in front of you, and right within you - beyond preconceived notions and judgments.

It means you see the person in front of you as a person - not as that idiot that obviously can't dress well and needs to get out of your way.

It means you see the dishes in your hands as dishes - not as something that needs to be taken care of so you can move on to more important things.

It means you recognize your thoughts as you are having them - not getting caught up in some long conversation with yourself and losing touch with what is in front of you.

Mindfulness isn't a way of escaping from the stresses of the world. It is a practice of being right there with them.
