*That's for a book's worth of information on encaustics, honest advice that's hard to find anywhere else, one-on-one attention, community support, open forums to ask all of your questions, AND invaluable tips on going beyond the techniques to make your art your OWN!
WEEK BY WEEK
We'll start at the VERY BEGINNING so there's no need to worry about feeling lost!
In week one, we'll take a brief look at the history of encaustic art (to gain an appreciation for those who paved our way) and contemporary forms of its expression.
Plus, we'll cover EVERYTHING you need to get started - from what to buy and where, photos and detailed descriptions of tools and materials, and how to set up your studio in an efficient and SAFE manner.
In week two, we'll dive right in! TO SAVE COSTS we'll begin with an "encaustic" project that requires little financial investment....just the cost of a heating tool, a canvas, and a few Crayola Crayons! This is the perfect way to introduce you to the exciting process of melting wax without requiring a larger investment into tools and materials.
In week three, we'll explore YOU. It is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you are not just copying techniques, but that you start from the very beginning using encaustics to express YOUR creative voice. We'll practice self-awareness techniques and learn why they are so important in the creative process.
In weeks four, five, and six, we begin exploring DELICIOUS ways to BEGIN, LAYER, COLLAGE, and SCRAPE your encaustic work!
Weeks four through six will be a tutorial-packed but OPTIONAL participation. (Optional because these weeks will require a bit more of a material investment. We'll learn in week two how to keep costs down and it is up to YOU as the course progresses if you want to participate in these last weeks.)
ALL participants will have access to the videos, PDF's, and information provided. If you decide not to purchase more materials at this point, You can KEEP the PDFs with you for future reference if and when you are ready to move forward on your encaustic journey! You will also still be a part of the community to see how others are beginning their encaustic work - and can ask questions of myself and others to better understand the process and see if it is right for you!
For those who do go through these weeks, we'll be creating your FASCINATING pieces of encaustic art...building off of techniques you learned in weeks two and three and making them UNIQUELY YOURS.
Week four will start off with a bit of collaging with scrapbook paper, papers you have on hand, and beeswax. (No additional wax colors needed for this week.)
In week five we'll start exploring layering - and how the translucent properties of beeswax and some colors lend themselves to FASCINATING results!

Week six will be a bit of exploration - taking everything we've learned, adding a bit of play with scraping away the wax, and really creating or finishing a piece that speaks to YOU.
