Be The Change

I've felt fanatically called to this idea recently, that of being the change I want to see in the world.

To put it in different terms, I want to act in ways that will radiate the type of being that I'd like to see reflected back to me. (The more I behave in a certain way, the more I provide inspiration and/or permission for someone else to behave in the same way.)

Part of that way of being that I want to practice and to see in the world is a being of Self-Acceptance.

Of being Real.

Authentic.

Non-judgmental of one's own beautiful nature.

A few minutes ago, I turned the camera on myself, meaning to take a photo to share with a message of "me looking at you looking at me". Catchy and whimsical post for Facebook, right?

This is the first image I took.

When I saw the photo, I immediately cringed at the neck rolls.

My impulse was to lean my chin up, fix my hair, tilt my head, and try again. Why in the world would I share that first one?

(be the change you want to see in the world)

Why would I share this one?

Because it's real.

It's exactly how I looked in the moment that I had that thought. It's what I look like when I'm relaxing on the couch in my home. It's who I am.

That's my body, my face, my smile, and my neck.

I want you to see the real me so that you will show me the real you.

The real you - not the head-tilted-up, hair-adjusted, 4th-take you.

It doesn't take a huge lifestyle adjustment to practice changing the world. As I've said before, I'm not here to change the world. I'm changing the world because I'm here.

With every thought, word, and action, I'm consciously changing the world into a world in which I'd like to live.

One selfie at a time.
